The concrete base method involves laying a 100mm reinforced slab, then fixing the tiles with a flexible adhesive and finishing with specialist grouting compounds to ensure the porcelain bonds properly.
We always recommend a resin grout for porcelain. It is flexible, highly resistant to the weather and can be coloured to contrast with the porcelain tiles.
For patios, a sand and cement bed installation similar to that used for natural stone is also possible, though the adhesive method gives better long term stability. A standard patio will typically take between 2 and 4 days to install from start to finish.
