Adding topsoil is often necessary. We aim for a depth of 100 to 150mm of quality topsoil, giving grass roots the space they need to establish properly. Poor soil produces a poor lawn, no matter how good the turf is. We level and grade with care, creating subtle falls away from buildings so that water does not pool.
Before laying, the ground receives a final raking and light consolidation. It should be firm enough to walk on without sinking, but never compacted hard.
